A decade ago 8mm film was transferred to VHS tape. VHS videotape was an analog format and had only 240 lines of resolution. Today film is transferred digitally at much higher resolutions. However not all digital film transfers are the same and can vary greatly from company to company.
Many companies claim that they transfer to digital format however they actually transfer the 8mm film to VHS first and THEN transfer it to DVD. So even though the final product is presented to you in digital format on a DVD you are still only getting an image quality of 240 lines of resolution.
At Icehouse Pictures your films are never double compressed. We perform a direct digital film transfer from your 8mm film to DVD. Each film is individually projected onto a 3 CCD HD digital camera that produces 700 lines of horizontal resolution. The digital camera is synched directly to a computer so there is no analog or digital tape involved in the process. This method ensures that there is no loss of resolution or picture quality and as a result your transferred 8mm films look as a good if not better than the originals.
